Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

General Bearings CC (“General Bearings”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it and how we protect it, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

1. Information we collect

We only collect information you choose to give us, when you:

  • Request a quote or send us a message: your name, company, email address, phone number, the products you are interested in, your message and any files you upload (such as a parts list or a photo of a bearing).
  • Apply for a trade account: your company and contact details needed to open an account.
  • Apply for a job: the CV and cover note you email to us.

Like most websites, our hosting provider also records basic technical information (such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit) to keep the website secure and working.

2. How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry and send you quotes, pricing and availability.
  • To process orders and manage trade accounts.
  • To consider job applications.
  • To keep our website secure and improve how it works.
  • To meet our legal and accounting obligations.

We will not use your information for marketing unless you have agreed to it, and you can opt out at any time. We never sell your personal information.

3. Who we share it with

We only share your information when needed to provide our service, for example with our website hosting and email providers, courier companies that deliver your orders, and our professional advisers. These parties must keep your information confidential and secure. We may also share information where the law requires it.

4. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires (for example, for tax and accounting records). After that it is securely deleted or destroyed.

5. How we protect it

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including secure (HTTPS) connections on this website and limited access to your information within our business.

6. Cookies

Our website uses a small number of cookies that are needed for it to work, for example to remember the items in your quote list. Our contact pages show a Google Map, and Google may set its own cookies when the map loads. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the website may then not work properly.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you, and for a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or update your information;
  • ask us to delete your information, where we are not required to keep it;
  • object to us using your information for marketing; and
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below. If you are not happy with our response, you may contact the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za or enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.
